sometimes that bond becomes complicated and if not addressed can have terrible consequences in a village near japan's mount fuji there lived a teenager named usumi she lived under the watchful care of her aunt fumio who doted on her endlessly every night usumi stared up at the snowy peak with wonder and terror it was there that her parents had been lost in a terrible avalanche when she was just a baby look away from there aunt familia warned it won't do you any good they concluded with their nightly offerings at their camadona a traditional shinto family shrine usami bade her aunt goodnight that night as she slept she heard a sweet loving whisper usami she sprang awake and saw that just outside her window was a beautiful woman she knew instantly it was her mother her mother told her how desperately she wanted to see her but her aunt familia forbade usumi was confused why would her aunt do that her mother explained that aunt familia was unable to have children of her own and was jealous of her brother's blessings her mother claimed that her aunt killed her own brother and banished her sister-in-law so she could raise usmi as her own suddenly anfamio turned on the lights what are you doing it's late usumi turned to the window to see her mother was gone the next day usumi couldn't think of anything else her mind was clouded with questions as well as rage at her aunt for lying at breakfast she coyly asked aunt familia to relay the story of her parents passing her aunt told the same story she always did that of a tragic avalanche and a child saved but unfamiliar's tone betrayed a distinct annoyance she told usumi she was tired of talking about Onibaba urban legend it her aunt then left for work but not before placing another offering at their shrine that night as her aunt slept usumi patiently waited at the window sure enough her mother reappeared usumi begged her to come inside her mother said she would but only if usumi destroyed the family shrine usumi didn't understand their camodona was sacred it contained amulets and keepsakes that protected the house poor girl aunt familio tricked you again she desecrates our cameldona with curses that trap you here and keep me from entering her mother explained usumi was furious filled with a desire for righteous vengeance she marched up to their shrine and angrily shoved it over it splintered and shattered sending shards of wood and porcelain flying everywhere anfamio ran into the room and exclaimed my dear usumi what have you done just then all the windows shattered and every door flung open as a shadow appeared over them the voice of usumi's mother thundered at last the shadow transformed until towering over niece and aunt was a hideous creature with a human head and a spider's body on familial cried out your mother is the juragumo an ancient goblin she made it with your father and killed him all i ever wanted was to shield you from such danger and tragedy usually stood between her mother and her aunt her mother beckoned and promised that now they could be together anfamio told her that the jury gumo has no love for anyone she would consume her daughter piece by piece just like her father before her then her aunt stopped talking and when usumi looked at the woman she found that she had been impaled by one of her own mother's legs her mother spun her dying aunt into a webbed cocoon and then instructed her daughter to come home with her to her real home on the mountain at that moment usumi was overwhelmed lied to traumatized she had no one anymore no one except her mother the juragumo crawled out of the cottage carrying her webbed up meal and was followed by usmi together they made their way up mount fuji reunited at last my face gets super oily at the worst times it's Ireland's Scariest Fairy Tales & Myths and the Legends Behind Them

With st. Patrick's Day right around the corner we thought we would talk about some Irish fairy tales or more specifically the fairies that live inside the fairy tales just a fair warning though these fairies aren't quite as happy and helpful as our beloved tooth fairy or Tinkerbell in fact some of these fairies are downright scary and have got us thinking that we might just need to start celebrating Halloween on st. Patrick's Day instead so let's sit down and go through some Irish fairy tales the pooka the pooka could either be your best friend or your worst nightmare depending on their mood that day like a lot of Irish fairies they're said to be a shapeshifter but they often like to take the form of a dark black horse with golden or red glowing eyes if you find yourself lost and a horse like this offers you a ride you should probably politely decline hookahs love to trick humans into wild rides with the sole purpose of terrifying the rider then they dump them off exactly where they pick them up with nothing but a new terrible experience and a long walk home during these wild nights they also love to cause a little domestic chaos as well breaking down fences and ruining crops while they're at it there are all kinds of tales recounting not-so-great encounters with pookas stories like this one passed down from 1813 during a fox hunt a wild black horse with no rider appeared and began tempting the hounds to continue chasing the Fox even as they neared a dangerous Gorge ahead the horse easily leaped across the gorge disappearing into woodlands but the pack of hounds hard on scent of Fox went headlong into pool he wept as most of the pack went under suddenly his sorrow gave way to terror he heard a diabolical name like an animal laughing from woods opposite Brennan knew then that it was puka after a story like that it's pretty hard to find any redeeming qualities in the pooka they do however help out rural farmers from time to time as long as the farmers have made offerings to them of course it said the farmer should leave a few stalks behind during harvest as a puka share in order to appease them and stop any potential mischief from happening on their property some stories even tell the farmers being able to befriend the pooka who then helped the farmers with their crops and helped bring the family happiness and prosperity for the rest of their days so maybe this murderous and destructive prankster is just misunderstood after all either way we'll leave a few years of corn outside the door this year just to be safe d'leh hon sorry Ichabod Crane but Dullahan might have beat you to the punch on this whole Headless Horseman business de la Han carries his all-seeing head around with him as he travels the irish countryside on his devilish horse it's not always just one singular ghoulish horse though often times he's seen traveling on the black coach with as many as six horses in tow just in case that wasn't terrifying enough he also uses a human spine as a whip oh and did we mention that wherever he goes death follows you'll want to avoid eye contact with him at all costs if you look at him he might just use that whip of his to blind you either that or he will throw a bucket of blood all over you neither option really being the greatest but it could be worse though it could be you he's roaming the countryside for if he happens to call out your name well we hope your affairs are in order because death will immediately follow Hanlan's mill fairy urban legends of ireland describes a brief encounter with the Dullahan poor mix heart almost died within him but he said nothing only looked on and the black coach swept away and was soon lost among some distant trees next morning early he was standing at the roadside when he saw Dan Madden coming on to master's best horse down the hill Dan wiping the tears from his eye with the sleeve of his coat who'd have thought that the first thing I'd see this morning was the mistress standing at my bedside and bidding me get up and ride off like fire for dr. Johnson for the master had got a fit and poor Dan's grief choked his voice Oh Mick don't fret too much because even the scariest of the scary have things they're afraid of as it turns out della Han is terrified of gold even in small amounts which is great news for all of us penny-pinchers all you need to do is throw some on the ground and he is coming for you to scare him off your trail needless to say we may need to befriend some leprechauns too our hands on some extra gold the stay prepared banshees why have just one bringer of death when you can have two banshees are another infamous fairy from Ireland that death happens to be pretty close friends with unlike that last guy though banshees are simply warning of an upcoming death rather than bringing it along with them in the tale how Thomas Connelly met the banshee this type of fairy is described as as pale as a corpse and the two eyes sewn with thread from the terrible power of crying they had to do as blue as to forget-me-nots and as cold as the moon in a bog hole of a frosty night and a dead and alive look at them that sent a cold shiver through the marrow of my bones the Banshee is often described this way a woman dressed in white clothing that is usually blood stained with an incredibly pale complexion and all white hair urban legend says that if you hear the ear piercing cry of a banshee you or a relative will die within 24 hours so unlike that Dullahan guy at least the banshee gives you a little bit of time for some final goodbyes to your loved ones changelings as if raising a child isn't hard enough some fairies like to go ahead and throw changelings into the mix fairies are often envious of human children and like to swap out their own fairy children for their human counterparts fairy children aren't the typical bundles of joy that we're all used to know these guys are only ever happy when bad things happen in the household the changeling will screech and yell and take all happiness away from its unknowingly adoptive family some tales say one of the only ways to get your real child back are through extreme methods a tale passed on by Thomas Keatley in 1850 tells the story of two travelers who happened upon a child in the wilderness they brought the child back to his home only to find the mother and a changeling in the home already they're in a rather risky and potentially cruel test they lift the straw underneath the child on fire to get rid of the changeling who fled before being burned to end the matter at once the lads produced the real child healthy and Hardy and they forthwith proceeded to dispose of their new charge for this purpose they got an old Creole to put him in and some straw to light under it seeing the serious turn matters were likely to take he resolved not to await the trial but flew up the smoke hole and went at the top he cried out that things would have gone very differently with them had it not been for the arrival of their guests you don't need to jump straight into homemade witch trials though others have said that loving and caring for the changeling enough to see it become happy and healthy will make their fairy parents jealous and swap them back for your own happy and healthy child so put down the torches and pick up the changeling and you'll likely have your baby back in no time grow gawk we promise not all fairies are so bad though in fact the grow [ __ ] actually sounds like they may be a dream come true these fairies are said to possess the power of invisibility and will only finally reveal themselves to you once they know you are trustworthy once they do it's time to kick up your feet and let them take over some of your household chores they'll scurry around completing The Sluagh urban legend some of your dirty work and they'll do all of this for the simple payment of a jug of cream now let's say our new friend has worn out their welcome which is definitely a possibility as many stories like the one in leprechauns the myths legends and lore have been told over the years in spite of their stupidity the house of screaming skull urban legend grog rocks were extremely good hearted and eager to do good turns indeed they were so eager to please that they invariably became pests about the house they would run about often invisibly trying to do small chores for the woman of the house and would usually end up creating more mess than they cleared well if this is the case all you have to do is invite over your local priest bishop or anyone who is part of the church your new friend turned nuisance will tuck tail and run away as they are terrified of the clergy even if they quickly were out there welcome they'd still be welcomed guests compared to the other fairies we've mentioned after learning more about all of these fairies I think it's safe to say we'll try our best to steer clear of them for now and try and stick to the fairy godmothers we've grown accustomed to if you have another favorite Irish legend let us know down in the comments below a happy st. Patrick's Day and don't forget to carry around some spare gold just in case della Hahn wants to make a quick visit to your neighborhood this year.

6 Japanese Urban Legends

yokoso peeps it's oz happy halloween and welcome to my halloween video in this video i'll be telling you about six monsters to look out for in japan so awesome this video is brought to you by all my send it out once a month the link is in the information section below if you subscribe to that newsletter you will get videos that are not available on youtube as well as our free articles to read that are about japan both the dark and the bright side of japan now as you know japan is famous for monsters like godzilla or ghosts like the the girl in juwon or sadako in the ring but i'm going to be talking about ancient japanese ghosts from japanese urban legends and folklore there's actually hundreds of these monsters ghosts beasts and mythical creatures but i'm going to be talking about six kuchisaki so the legend of kuchi sake ona actually started an edo period in the 17th and 19th century but it became really popular in the 70s in the 1970s these stories of this monster lady hit newspapers and weekly magazines and it was such a cause such a panic in japan at the time that a lot of kids were scared to walk alone to school and back so the pta the parent teacher association had to escort them or accompany them there's different variations of the legend but according to some of the stories i read it starts with a woman who was the wife of a samurai however she cheated on her samurai husband and she was caught being adulterous as a punishment for infidelity her husband the samurai slit her face for her mouth from ear to ear she was shamed and disfigured and when she died her ghost became a vengeful ghost her ghost continued to haunt japan and she would be out and about and she'd be wearing a surgical mask kind of like what all the japanese people were now and the world wears now because of corona she would also carry a large metal object some people say it's a knife other people say it's scissors or skype and usually she'd be walking around the town looking for victims most of whom were children she'd walk up to a victim and she would ask am i beautiful and if the person replied no she would slash them and kill them if they replied yes she would then remove her mask showing her disfigured mouth and open bloody wounds and gashes and all her like nasty teeth then she would ask again am i beautiful and if they answered no she would of course once again slash them and kill them however if you answered yes she would spare your life but she would use her weapon to slit your mouth from ear to ear however there was a way to escape kuchisaki onna legend when she asked am i beautiful instead of saying yes or no if you kind of did something that was kind of like an ambiguous answer she would get confused and that would give you time to run away another version of the story says that instead of answering if you give her caramel candies or throw caramel candies on the floor or money on the floor when she reaches down to pick them up you have a chance to escape either way because kuchi sakiona wore a mask it was hard to tell who she was until it was too late kappa are these weird mythical creatures that live in rivers and ponds across japan they are part amphibian and part human their skin is green and scaly they have webbed feet and arms and they also have a large shell on their back similar to a turtle they also have a dish indentation in their head where they place water this is the source of their power and must remain wet at all times though they're the size of children they're actually powerful much stronger than even men they thrive in the water they're excellent swimmers and for some reason they have three anuses they're known to be weak on land which is why they mostly stay in the river according to japanese legend kappas are actually very intelligent and very mischievous they love eating cucumbers and the innards of humans they do a lot of weird things like sometimes they make loud farting noises in public or they look up girls women's kimonos but other times they hate cows and horses and they usually like attack them so although kappas are are not that dangerous outside of water it's in the water where they're the most dangerous so if you're swimming in the water they will attack you especially children and women they love to attack them and eat them while someone is in the water or while they're swimming they'll come up from underneath and they'll bite your anus and they'll pull you in underwater until you drown and then they will eat your remains but despite being so violent against humans they can also be very loyal and friendly so it's said that if you meet a kappa on land the best thing to do is to greet it and to bow politely as low as possible and because kappas are so honorable and loyal they will bow back and when they bow down the water that's in their dish in their head will fall out and they'll grow weak this gives the humans the upper hand and if you offer them water and you offer to hydrate them again they will forever be loyal to you and japanese people really believe in the kappa so much that even to this day in the summer festivals they offer cucumbers as an act of kindness toward kappa [Music] akka means red and manto means cape so akamanto is a creature that wears a red cape it's actually a male spirit and he wears a mask and apparently he's a very good looking spirit when he was alive he was a good looking guy and he was a serial killer even after his death he continued to be a serial killer and he haunts bathrooms especially women's bathrooms and school bathrooms and he always waits in the last stall so it's recommended to not use the last doll if you don't want to come in contact with akamanto this story was actually quite popular in the 1930s especially with school children so the story goes once you're in the last stall akamanto approaches you and he gives you an option kind of like morpheus in the matrix with the blue pill or the red pill he gives you the option of the blue toilet paper or the red toilet paper if you ask for the red toilet paper he'll take out his knife and he'll slash you to death spraying your blood all over the entire stall however if you choose the blue toilet paper he'll either strangle you to your blue or he'll suck out your blood until you're drained and you're blue now the story says that some people try to trick him and try to use another color like white or yellow or purple or green or something but they say that if you do that he sucks you into the toilet into the into the mouth of hell apparently the only way to really escape him is once again not to answer and just try to get out of stall and escape however it's not a guarantee sometimes he'll block the exit and then you'll be killed anyway unfortunately facing the akamanto usually means death [Music] literally means like a mountain hag or mountain lady old lady so you might be able to spot yamauba at various mountain areas in hokkaido or shizuoka or nagano places like that across japan and the yamauba are old ladies that were originally cast away either they were single and they didn't have a husband or they were widowed or because of financial situations in the past the family couldn't take care of them anymore and they were kind of kicked out of the house and they were forced to live alone and so they made their way up to these mountains and they live alone in these huts and over time they've become monsters they're kind of like these sinister witches who prey on travelers or merchants or passing by their mountain area they usually have like disheveled hair disheveled kimono really wrinkled skin and a lot of them even have fangs and horns so what they'll do is when you're passing by they'll be nice to you they'll invite you in for dinner or if it's getting late at night they'll offer you shelter but eventually they'll attack you they'll poison you and they'll attempt to eat you there's no real method to really escape them except just by luck so people who escaped the survivors escaped have spread stories about the yamaouba even to this day a lot of parents when their kids are being disobedient will say go to sleep or you better not be a bad boy or a bad girl otherwise we'll send you to the yamauba out of all the creatures that i heard about this one seems to be the weirdest literally means ass eye and basically it's like a man-shaped creature without a face who has a giant yellow like shining eye that is in his anus so shirime is like i said has no face but has like a man like body and wears a kimono and kind of just waits around town for his victims they make strange noises and try to get someone's attention and once they can get someone's attention and they stop they suddenly rip off their kimono they're naked underneath then they bend over and they stretch out their anus and just show that person their giant yellow eye they don't attack they don't say anything and really there's no real reason why they do that except for the shock value i guess they're like today's versions of perverts who just go up to people on the street and then just flash them no one knows their real reason or origin or anything about them or why they have an eye in their anus of the toilet so similar to acamanto hanako also haunts the toilets specifically the girls toilets in schools this legend actually began in the 1950s after the war and they said that hanako was actually a little girl who died while she was hiding during a world war ii raid other people say that she was killed by either her family or somebody in a toilet which is why she haunts the toilet she's a young girl probably of elementary school age she has like a bobbed haircut and she wears a red dress or red skirt the difference between akamanto and her is where akamanto is waiting for victims hanako only comes when she's summoned to summon hanako you go to the girl's bathroom and you go to the third stall and you knock three times and then you ask are you there hanako-san if she's there she'll reply and you'll see a bloody hand come out and pull you into the toilet pulling you into the toilet will bring you into the mouth of hell there's alternative stories and in some stories when you say are you there she replies and a hand comes out but other times it's her who changed into a three-headed lizard and the lizard swallows you whole so there you go that's just six of the evil creatures or monsters that i found from japanese folklore or urban legends.
